Faculty Collects

Dates:
October 1, 2009 - January 17, 2010

Location:
Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building, School of Fine Arts Gallery: Gift of the Women’s Board

Description:
In the tradition of artists collecting the work of other artists, this exhibition of art from the personal collections of PAFA’s faculty demonstrates the range and diversity of faculty tastes and interests.  Curated by faculty members Jill Rupinski and Rob Roesch, the exhibition displays approximately 50 works in a variety of disciplines, media, and subject matters.  Beautiful prints by Howard Hodgkin, and Bonnard and Joan Mitchell share space with historic landscape paintings,  beautiful abstractions from a number of extraordinary artists, Indian miniatures and Japanese prints, figure paintings by Philip Geiger, and interiors by Mitzi Melnicoff.  Artists don’t always confine themselves to collecting art. With the paintings and prints, there are model boats and turtle shells, and a mysterious wire sculpture that could be almost anything.
