Educators’ Evenings and workshops are for art and classroom teachers, grades k-12. Participating in these tailored events will help you to effectively prepare your students for their visit. Through gallery demonstrations, exhibition tours, lectures, group discussions, and hands-on activities, strategies are learned and developed to integrate exhibition concepts into the art and general curriculum.
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts is approved by the state of Pennsylvania to offer Act 48 credit. Each event or workshop earns 3 Pennsylvania continuing education hours.
NEW! Summer Academy for Teachers -- The Painted Narrative
PAFA Museum Education and Continuing Education partner this summer to bring you a week-long session blending the fine arts, art history, and museum education techniques appropriate for all K-12 educators. Grounded in PAFA’s special exhibition Eric Fischl: Studied Vision, educators will work with both faculty and museum staff as they closely examine Eric Fischl’s enthusiasm for figure painting and discover how he visually created his narratives.
Join faculty members Al Gury and Lisa Hamilton each morning for hands-on drawing, painting and printmaking activities and learn how to apply those lessons to the classroom. Each afternoon, spend time in the museum galleries with museum staff and practice Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and learn how to use our collection to connect with language arts curriculum standards. Harry Philbrick, Edna S. Tuttleman Director of the Museum, will kick off the program as he leads you through the curatorial process of Eric Fischl: Studied Vision.
