Interns work with the professional staff of the Academy and participate in the work of a department. They are placed within the Academy based on their interests, educational experience, preferences and availability. Internships at PAFA are always for the benefit of the intern; therefore all interns are required to write a summary paper at the end of the assignment detailing what they have learned during their time here.
Most PAFA internships are unpaid and are available throughout the year. PAFA students are encouraged to talk with the Career Services Department concerning their interest in internships. In addition PAFA has collaborated with serve local Universities, including the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Delaware to provide opportunities for specialized fields.

Human Resources Intern
The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), America’s first art museum and school of fine arts, is seeking a Human Resources Intern for the Fall 2014 semester. The Human Resources Intern will support the administrative functions of the Human Resources Department with the direct objective of learning the operational components of the department and organization. The Human Resources Intern will gain knowledge and assist with the retention of employee files, employee relations, benefits administration, budgeting, auditing and compliance. This internship will also provide the opportunity for understanding and developing employee policies and procedures.
This is an unpaid internship, expected to run for the Fall 2014 semester (October 2014 through December 2014), with a flexible schedule of 10 to 15 hours per week.
Interested candidates must have completed or are in the process of completing a degree in Human Resources, Non-Profit Management or a similar program. Excellent communication skills in order to interact with a diverse range of employees and individuals. Proficiency with MS Office Suite and previous experience in an office environment preferred. Candidates must be trustworthy and have an understanding of discretionary practices and laws regarding the Human Resources field.
